Powerful and inviting.
Faith connects these women, reminding the reader that turning to God in times good or bad manifests strength to help carry you through anything.
I do not hold Christian beliefs of a God. Even though I was raised United. However I do believe in the power of positive spiritual energy and I felt that in this book.
Touching, enlightening, loving, challenging, devastating, encouraging...are all thoughts that ran though my mind reading this tale full of inspiring life lessons.
Madeline, Lorraine and Lilly in particular, are developed such that an understanding emotional and likeable deep connection is established before you're consciously aware. The sign to me of a very talented writer that's passionate about her words.
Just really enjoyed the flow of this adventure beginning to end. The life lessons learned and subtle reminders throughout of just how thankful we should be.
My recommendation is to set some time aside to read this book. A book that will touch you in so many different ways.

This book takes you thru Europe and life struggles of various families. It also touches you with the love and faith these families share as they travel to the US to start new lives. Enjoyable reading.
I honestly thought this novel was (poorly) translated into English as the phraseology was so stilted and at times just outright weird. But the "about the author" bit at the end indicated the author was indeed American. It also indicates that she wrote this novel while overcoming a lot of life tragedies. That said I will forgo further critique.
This is an amazing book. I kept thinking it was a family diary...I wish she would write more books. I loved the closeness to God that all the famlyl members showed in their lives. A real inspiration for living through very difficult times.
This is so very much unlike most of what I read. I was absolutely blown away by this story. It follows the lives of Valentin and Lilly starting from World War II in France and continues to present time. The story is full of honesty, hope, love, and faith. The journey of the characters, this family, is so vividly honest and believable. It is a story that will move the reader and encourage the reader to learn more about themselves and the strength of the human spirit. I found the plot to move very well and the story to be well written. This was a great book!
Courage Times Three is a story about three courageous women Lilly, Lorraine and Madeleine. While living in Europe they endured terrible deprivation and suffered through the horrors of World War II. Because of their steely determination and Christian values they survived the war, but at a high cost. Despite this they were determine to make new lives for themselves. Along with new husbands, who had also experienced many hardships, they immigrated to America and flourished. Because of their faith in God and inner strength, they took on new challenges in good and bad times knowing their faith would not let them down. As a result they raised wonderful God loving families and achieved the American dream. For those who read Christian fiction, I recommend this novel.
This a a beautiful story about a few people who staied true to Gods in the good times and the bad times. I am a Christian Pastor, and I have been through some really tragic things in my life and this book actually captures the feelings of hopelessness, shame, hurt and pain but IT CLEARLY pours your sould with great emotions of joy, happiness, endurance and strength to get through the bad things in life. I could not put this book down and read it in one sitting because it captured the very essence of a persons sould in troubles, but then in blessing as well. Great Job Brenda!
This novel is about personal, family, and human love, faith, and hope. The author has done her research as she builds the setting and characters. She leaves nothing to the imagination in her descriptions. Beginning during WW II this family story moves across generations. You feel what once was, and you can hear the bell peeling through the countryside as it signifies a message of hope, joy, and freedom. You will sense the anguish, loss, pain and tragedy and you will see and feel the moral fiber woven through the words on each page. The author gives life and authenticity to her writing.
Valentin and Lillie take you on a journey through the social and religious impact of war, and the realities of life. The author eloquently reveals lessons of trust and optimism through devotion. From Europe, America, war, vineyards, the underground paper, churches, wealth, poverty, and family to overcoming daily and life altering struggles, you will feel the power of love, new beginnings, acceptance, religious tolerance, human dignity, and worth. This is a frank, wholesome, beautiful, tragic, and inspiring love story of faith and family.
Well done and a must read.
